Predicting Box-Office Of Every Disney 2019 Movie
9. Captain Marvel - $850m
Release Date: March 8
Disney have had plenty of success with March releases before - both Beauty and the Beast and Alice In Wonderland opened then, before going on to take over $1bn - while Black Panther's February opening worked wonders, although that was to coincide with Black History Month, which undoubtedly helped.
It's unlikely Captain Marvel will match any of those, but it is going to be unopposed for a few weeks, and has the huge incentive for audiences after the character was teased at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. It's also the MCU's first female-led solo movie, and is releasing on International Women's Day, which is only going to boost its numbers further.
It might not become quite the cultural event Black Panther did, but it should still be in the top-tier of MCU debuts. Guardians of the Galaxy took $773m, while Spider-Man: Homecoming took $880, and looking at DC's own first female-led movie, Wonder Woman made $821m. The additional pull of the MCU should take it above that, and it has a good chance of becoming the 10th MCU feature to crack $850m.
