Predicting Every Upcoming Marvel Movie's Box-Office Results
5. Thor: Ragnarok
Worldwide Gross: $750 million
From the big trio of Iron, Captain America and Thor, the latter generally tends to prove the least popular with fans. Thor: The Dark World wasn't great, and it wasn't terrible - it was just good. But 'good' doesn't cut it when your competition is Captain America: The Winter Soldier and you're coming off the back of The Avengers, but if Ragnarok can improve on its predecessor, the Thor trilogy is virtually guaranteed its highest earner.
But unfortunately, like Doctor Strange, there's another huge barrier in its way. DC's Justice League will release no less than two weeks after Ragnarok debuts, which could severely diminish its long-term success (especially if Justice League is good).
The audience for both movies is pretty much the same too, meaning that Thor: Ragnarok could lose out on those repeat viewings that can quite easily propel a film from a moderate financial success to a runaway one.
Still, there are plenty of positives here. The movie is adding the Hulk, which should draw a tad more public recognition and give the product a wider appeal. The currently announced cast is absolutely stellar; Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, Cate Blanchett and Karl Urban should easily provide the star power to be slapped on all the posters, trailers and TV spots. $750 million is probably less then Marvel are expecting, but it's still nothing to sneeze at.
