6. Ant-Man And The Wasp

Spider Man Homecoming Money
MARVEL

Worldwide Gross: $700 million

Nobody really thought we'd get a sequel to Ant-Man, and even if you did, you probably didn't expect such a rapid announcement.

Still, the little guy proved to be a big hit both critically and commercially in July last year, and a sequel makes sense. Ant-Man's irreverent brand of comedy makes it possibly the most unique franchise in the MCU, and Marvel would be wise to keep that train rolling for the sake of diversity.

Speaking of diversity, Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to prominently feature Hope van Dyne - aka 'The Wasp' - as the pair team up in what will be the first MCU entry to have a female character in the title since the universe's inception. But, while Evangeline Lily was solid while playing the character in Ant-Man, she never really gained the type of high-level recognition that will translate into box-office dollars come the sequel's release.

Instead, it'll be Ant-Man that carries this one to the bank, off the back of his hugely successful first movie and widely-praised supporting role in Captain America: Civil War. The sequel should, by all accounts, build on Ant-Man's $519 million gross, and given its prime summer release date, there'll be plenty of marketing money behind this one and plenty of people heading to the cinema during the biggest movie season of the year.
