4. Dark Phoenix Kills Mystique - X-Men: Dark Phoenix

The latest mainline X-Men film will see Jean Grey transform into the unstoppable force known as Dark Phoenix, and it's fair to say that she's going to cause her share of trouble for her former superhero allies.

Recent rumours suggest that one of the four main characters from the First Class franchise, Magneto, Professor Xavier, Mystique or Beast, will be fatally impaled at the hands of the Phoenix Force, and the smart money here is surely on Mystique?

Though Jennifer Lawrence is an undeniably huge draw, her lack of enthusiasm for the part is extremely apparent, and killing her off would certainly give fans a visceral reaction one way or another (sadness or elation).

Considering that Magneto, Xavier and Beast are all far more interesting characters, greasing Mystique makes the most sense.

While it's possible that Lawrence may have angled to die early on to limit her time spent working on the film, given her leadership role in training the younger X-Men, it makes much more sense that she makes it to the very end of the movie before being killed off, after which the remaining X-Men band together to take Dark Phoenix down.
