Predicting The 8 Biggest Film Trends Of 2016

This year won't just be remakes and superheroes.

At the beginning of last year, few might have predicted the dominance of spy movies or the rise of Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson, and yet those were some of the most significant trends at the movies in 2015. As a new year of movies arrives, there€™s a little bit of everything on the upcoming slate. It€™s no secret that once again franchise fare and sequels will dominate the market but there€™s plenty more going on as well. Studios are always looking to find ways to guarantee success, and while there will always be plenty of original fare, they€™ve become increasingly creative in the ways they€™re able to tie new films into existing properties. Studios are also always looking for the next new innovation in film. In hindsight, for example, Marvel€™s shared universe worked so well that it€™s a wonder no one ever tried it before. Some of these potential trends mark the varied attempts at capitalizing on the next movie fad before anyone else. Looking at all of the movies set to be released this year, spanning genre and size, these seem to be the best bets for which stories will continue to dominate movie talk throughout the year, and which innovations will continue to inspire the future slate of films.
