Here's a bold prediction for you; Doctor Strange will be 2016's best comic book movie. This may be a big departure for director Scott Derrickson from his work in the horror realm, but he's a fantastic storyteller, and all his movies look great. As a result, the mind boggles over how incredible the cosmic realms explored by Strange are going to end up coming across on the big screen, and those are just one of the many things which should help Doctor Strange stand out as 2016's most unique superhero release. What else will draw praise to this movie? Well, while impressive names like Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Affleck lead some of next year's other major releases, Doctor Strange's masthead arguably overshadows them all. Benedict Cumberbatch - an actor who is pretty much universally loved by fans and critics alike - being the lead is a major plus point, and if Sherlock is anything to go by (not to mention his many other great roles), then he could just establish himself as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new biggest draw with Doctor Strange (sorry, Downey Jr.). The fact that the cast is so diverse is another one of those things some reviewers love to hone in and heap praise on, but that aside, and it's impossible to imagine names like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton delivering anything other than stellar performances. It's obviously still early days on Doctor Strange as shooting hasn't even started, but it stands out in 2016 as by far the most exciting and original of all the comic book adaptations on offer. While the others feature warring heroes and world ending threats, Doctor Strange is going to take moviegoers on a trippy adventure into realms unknown, and you have to believe that will be welcomed with open arms by critics who are already complaining about superhero fatigue and the predictability that big releases like Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Man Of Steel bring to the table. We haven't seen so much as a single official piece of concept art from Doctor Strange to date, but I'm still willing to bet on this movie being the best 2016 has to offer!
