Project X: 5 Reasons Why It's A Nasty Piece of Filmmaking

4. Misogynistic Portrayal of Women

project xx There has already been a fair amount been written about the portrayal of women in many teen comedies as sex objects, and Project X is no different. Any female character (apart from the stupid, unimportant mother figure) is an emotionless figure that is only here to expose their breasts and become objects of male pubescent desire. Not only do the characters treat women with as little respect as possible, but the camera does the same for the audience. Women are only shown to the audience through found footage of them in a pool topless, dancing topless, taking drugs topless, and gyrating to an even more mundane musical score. Women are empty shells to be used by men and quite frankly, I believed we had moved forward in the representation of women on screen. If American Pie and Superbad can make interesting and rounded women, why does Todd Phillips insist on producing such garbage, As our good friend Costa says: €˜Wow. I don't know how to fix this. I don't know how to fix any of this shit. I'm sorry Thomas. I just wanted to get some pussy.€™ A great ambassador for the male species.
