Prometheus 2: 10 Questions The Film Needs To Answer
4. What Will Shaw Do On The Engineer Homeworld?
The end of Prometheus sees Elizabeth, with David's severed head in her possession, pilot an abandoned Engineer spaceship in an attempt to go and seek answers about why the Engineers would want to extinguish all of humanity in the first place. In talks about the potential for a sequel, and Scott hinted that what Shaw might find would be horrific, particularly given that her religious faith has already been severely shaken by the fact that the beings who helped bring about the human race are actively opposed to humanity and wish to destroy it. Ouch. Therefore, Scott has promised that the sequel will be centred around the idea of 'Paradise' and what it means for Shaw and David, who represent religious faith and existentialism in equal measure. Religion has played a huge part in Prometheus and the idea of searching for the Creator was what inspired Shaw in the first place to go on the journey; clearly Scott will incorporate the idea of Shaw's faith being shaken, destroyed, or even surviving the horrors she's endured, into the film which may even carry the title of 'Paradise' (an original title for Prometheus during production). What is at the end of Shaw's rainbow? Given that the biological goo weapon seems poised at any moment to birth a race of monsters created purely to destroy and eradicate, it's a distinct possibility that Shaw and David will find the Engineers' home planet destroyed, particularly given that two millennia have passed since the outpost became overrun by the infection.
