Prometheus 2: 9 Things Need To Happen

2. Some Consistency Regarding The Black Goo Would Be Grand

A very specific request it may be, but one rather huge, unexplained concept in Prometheus is just what in damnation the black goo seen in the film actually does. Many originally assumed that the substance was some sort of primal form of the Xenomorphs, but really, it was nowhere near to being the correct answer. When humans are infected with it, they become crazed lunatics with bloodshot eyes and extremely aggressive temperaments. Engineers dissolve into nothing upon consuming it and worms become pseudo facehuggers. So what exactly does it do? Annoyingly, there is no answer, and there seems to be absolutely no consistency to the effects it has on organisms that consume it other than prompting some form of mutation. Let's not forget as well that, upon having sex with her infected boyfriend, Shaw becomes host to the 'trilobite', the squid-like life form that eventually impregnates the Engineer and creates the Deacon. There seems to be no concrete rules to what the goo does so please Ridley, gives us an answer as to just what the goo's purpose is beyond it being some form of biological weapon.
