6. The Tie-in To Alien
One Engineer
did make it out from series of tumultuous events that transpired on LV-223. The Engineer who had intervened to save humankind managed to suit and up and escape via another ship but he was already infected/ impregnated. Midway through his flight (probably to the Engineer homeworld to explain that events had just taken a massive turn for the worse) he ran into difficulties. He landed his ship on the moon LV-426 (a moon apparently in the same star system as LV-223) and a xenomorph ripped it's way from his abdomen. This Engineer- benign, and truly altruistic to humankind- is the space-jockey that appears in
Alien. By the time he was found more than two thousand years later the odd mix of flesh and synthetic material that comprised his body and his bio-suit took on the appearance that Dallas would confuse as being fossilised. This interpretation is given credibility by the fact that around the time of
Alien Ridley Scott went on record to say that he considered the character aboard the derelict ship on LV-426 to be benevolent. He was one of the good guys! Which makes the irony even more beautiful our intended saviour 'gave birth to our prospective destroyer. Other thoughts: If Ridley considers that the events of James Camerons 1986 sequel to
Alien
Aliens are canonical, then only queen category xenomorph can lay eggs. That means that the xenomorph that emerged from this Engineer was a queen. It laid its eggs- which managed to survive 2000 years of solitude- and died. 2000 years later the ship was found by the Nostromo. And there you have it! My interpretation of what happened in
Prometheus, cobbled together from the tidbits of clues that Mr Lindelof and co. were kind enough to leave us with!
