Quentin Tarantino: Definitive Guide To Homages, Influences And References

1. The Lack Of An Original Score

Tarantino has always abstained from having an original composer create music for his films, and often includes cuts from his own personal record collection (but literally using the grainy versions in some cases). In his own words, the director said: "I just don't like the idea of giving that much power to anybody on one of my movies.

"I would much rather work with a music editor than a music composer." After finding a song in his record collection that inspires him somehow, he makes a place for it in his scripts. "I'm looking for that stuff that you haven't heard a gazillion times before. It's also kind of a personal mix-tape that I'm making for you. I like the amateur quality about it."

Quite.
