Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight: 10 Things You Need To Know
3. It's Filmed In 70mm (And That's A Big Deal) (Apparently)
Besides the basics of the plot synopsis and some character breakdowns that were recently divulged, details are a little thin on the ground about The Hateful Eight. There's been a lot of information about pre-production rumours that Jennifer Lawrence and Viggo Mortensen were in talks to join the film, that sort of thing but not much about the actual filming yet. Well, apart from that whole weird aspect ratio thing, which is thanks in part to the presence of cinematographer Robert Richardson, who also worked with Tarantino in Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained. The crazy wide aspect ratio isn't the only weird thing about how it's being shot. The Hateful Eight is being filmed on 70mm film, using Ultra Panavision 70, which will make it the widest release in 70mm since Ron Howard's Far and Away in 1992. Which means that it's going to be shot in a high resolution, so you'll be able to see a lot of details of Bruce Dern's craggy face, essentially.
