Ralph Fiennes: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. John Steed - The Avengers (1998)

We've arrived at the creme de la crap for Mr. Ralph Fiennes, who still deserves a knighthood for his contribution and wonderful body of work. But it would be great if this..thing..was erased from his permanent record before he gets one. Land Of The Blind was a misfire with good intentions, Skyfall was a chance to be part of a British tradition, Titans were probably fun sets and good times with Neeson, and Maid in Manhattan was a harmless experiment that didn't hurt too many involved. But what on Earth is 1998's The Avengers? It's a quandary, a glitch and the most noticeable crack in an otherwise polished career for one of Britain's finest. As a remake of the popular television show everything that could have gone wrong with The Avengers film version, did. Starting with the casting of Fiennes and Uma Thurman. Fiennes could've perhaps used his auto-pilot of the refined British chap variety and played along to the script's absurdities like a gentleman but Thurman's presence makes even that malfunction, bringing his talents to an all-time low. In almost every scene he's in Fiennes looks downright embarrassed to be there. Speeding through his dialogue which has him saying gems like "well I'm a nature lover so whatever comes naturally" and proving that two street lamps can have more chemistry than two humans, Fiennes has never been worse. Thanks to this stinking pile of manure, he can add a Razzie nomination next to his Academy Awards, BAFTAs and Golden Globe mentions. What's your favorite Ralph Fiennes performance? Do you think there's a performance that wasn't paid enough respect or perhaps one that should have been included at the bottom? Sound off your opinions in the comments, and enjoy what looks to be another awesome performance from Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel.
