Ranking 10 Highest-Grossing Movie Franchises - From Worst To Best

2. Star Wars

Rank: 5th Total Worldwide Box Office: $4,391,953,805 No. Of Films: 6 Star Wars: George Lucas' little homage to the space serials he loved as a kid turned into one of the most beloved movie franchises on the planet. Even after the relatively cold reception to the prequel trilogy, Star Wars is positively huge, and the fever is already in full-motion again as fans excitedly await the arrival of Episode VII: The Force Awakens come December. There is no denying the classic status of the original Star Wars trilogy, then: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi are three of the greatest blockbusters of all-time; iconic in ways that other space-based adventure movies will never be. What is there to say about the original films save for the fact their awesomeness alone assured them such a high place on this list? The Force will be with us. Always. What of the prequel trilogy, then? Does it deserve all the hate? Quite simply: no. Whilst Attack of the Clones was something of a disaster, The Phantom Menance - Jar Jar Binks aside - is a fun and actually rather underrated picture. The Revenge of the Sith, on the other hand, is easily the equal of Return of the Jedi in terms of quality. Which means that, save for one truly abysmal film, the Star Wars franchise has come out pretty well. Fingers crossed that The Force Awakens delivers everything that it has promised.
