Ranking 10 Highest-Grossing Movie Franchises - From Worst To Best

9. Pirates Of The Caribbean

Rank: 10th Total Worldwide Box Office: $3,729,577,967 No. Of Films: 4 Kind of like the Transformers franchise, The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been running off of the good will of the first movie, Curse of the Black Pearl, for over a decade. Who knew that a motion picture based on a ride could be so fun? And it was, you'll remember, the film that launched Johnny Depp to global fame and set him on the path to making that endless stream of movies in which he was required to wear a funny hat and do a comical voice. Which, thankfully, has yet to get old. Oh, wait, no: he's insufferable. Pirates of the Caribbean took its first misstep when it decided to create two insanely complicated, overblown sequels - shot back to back - in Dead Man's Chest and At World's End. Those weren't really movies; they were mind-blowingly long, boring and convoluted advertisements for how not to make blockbusters intended for families. Everyone thinks that they like the Pirates movies, of course, but are they really, actually, seriously good? Whilst Pirates should have ended with World's End, they made another in On Stranger Tides, which a) grossed lots of money and b) was savaged by the critics. There are plans for more, of course, just because. Anyway, one good movie in 12 years? Poor show.
