Ranking 2015's Summer Blockbuster Films From Worst To Best

6. Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Age Of Ultron may have struggled to reach the highs of Joss Whedon's previous effort, but it still turned out to be one of the summer's most rock solidly entertaining blockbusters. While it lacked the unmistakable novelty appeal of the original film, James Spader gave a ferocious performance as the villainous AI Ultron, and it corrected one of the 2012 film's major errors: it actually developed Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) as a character. With the duty of needing to cram so many characters into the mix, it's frankly impressive that the end result is so coherent, imperfect for sure, but a well-oiled blockbuster machine, boasting the hilarious quips, outrageous action and colourful heroes and villains fans of the MCU have come to expect. One suspects that the upcoming Captain America: Civil War will probably be a much more entertaining and interesting film (and it's already earned the nickname The Avengers 2.5), and it's likely wise that Whedon bails from the MCU now so he doesn't repeat himself too much, but Age Of Ultron still ends up relatively high up in the Universe's output so far.
