Ranking Aaron Sorkin Films From Worst To Best
6. Molly's Game
Aaron Sorkin's first time in the director's chair was a triumph as he deftly told the true story of Molly Bloom, a woman who ran the most exclusive high-stakes poker game in the world for a decade. Bloom ended up facilitating global movie stars, political figures and powerful individuals for her games until she became a target of the FBI.
There is strong supporting work from Idris Elba, Kevin Costner and an almost sinister Michael Cera but this film belongs to Jessica Chastain. She was robbed of an Oscar nomination for her career best work as Molly Bloom as she portrayed the role with the right amount of empathy and distance to keep the audience hooked.
Sorkin proves he is capable of more than just writing with a strong directorial style but it would be wrong to say that his screenplay is not still his best achievement here. Cutting dialogue and fast paced sequences with a fixation on just Chastain and her journey through the narrative make for a tremendous film.
