Ranking Aaron Sorkin Films From Worst To Best

5. Moneyball

Mollys Game
Columbia Pictures

Of all the things, Sorkin made mathematics cinematic. The story about the Oakland A's general manager who employed statistical analysis in an effort to improve the team's ranking worked surprisingly well thanks to Sorkin and Steven Zaillian's (a legendary writer in his own right) screenplay.

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill give great leading performances as the baseball manager and statistics expert fighting to get the Oakland A's to where they need to be while also doing so at minimal financial cost to the team. Like many sports films before it, Moneyball is an uplifting and feel good film but its unique approach feels refreshing keeping it different enough from the other films in the sub-genre.

It is impressive that a sports film that is far less about the actual sport than you would expect is as enthralling as it is with great characterisation and mounting dramatic tension throughout. Moneyball is one of the best examples of the Sorkin's incomparable versatility.
