3. Finding Dory
Whenever a money making franchise returns from the dead after a long time, you can usually detect the stink of commercial cynicism from a mile off. As part of that, you usually get a watered down, thinly stretched story in place of a legitimate reason to exist, and most of the things that made the original so great tend to be eroded out entirely.
Luckily though, the only conventions that Pixar tend to follow are their own, and Finding Dory is far from a money grabbing exercise. It takes one of the most compelling narrative hints of the first film (the little suggestion of Dory's heart-breaking backstory) and extrapolates it into a devastating story of redemption. It's typically heart-warming, the animation proves that Pixar aren't through with advancements yet and Baby Dory might well be the studio's most adorable creation ever.
iInding Dory's chief success is in proving that it deserves to exist without the question even really rising. It's entertaining, emotionally rich and beautiful and it should fill everyone with confidence for the similarly long gestating Incredibles sequel.
