Ranking All 7 Superhero Movies From 2016 In Order Of Anticipation
7. Gambit
Despite being one of the most popular X-Men characters, the Gambit solo film ranks as the least anticipated of the bunch. Some of that comes from the fact the movie has suffered several setbacks behind the scenes, including rumors that lead Channing Tatum had bowed out of the project at one point. It's also hard to shake the fact that Tatum is a poor choice for the Cajun mutant - previously played by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He certainly doesn't have the profile comic book movie fans will expect to see in such a role. But then hopefully his hilarious performances in the Jump Street movies, dramatic turn in Foxcatcher, and upcoming role in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight will buy him some goodwill from fans of Remy LaBeau. In addition to the controversy regarding Tatum, director Rupert Wyatt has dropped out of the production citing scheduling conflicts. Putting the man who behind Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes in charge had fans excited, but this news is yet another setback for a movie that at this point could use some of Gambit's signature energy to get things charged up and back on track. Even with all the drama, it's still Gambit - a very popular and charismatic character - with longtime X-Men scribe Chris Claremont involved from a writing standpoint, so it could still turn out to be great when all is said and done.
