Ranking All Of The Live-Action Disney Remakes

6. 101 Dalmatians

Christopher Robin Winnie Pooh
Disney

Despite the fact that these live-action Disney remakes have only truly taken hold of the zeitgeist in the past five years or so, the very first of them was all the way back in 1996.

Produced and written by filmmaking legend, John Hughes, the live-action remake of 101 Dalmatians was every bit as primitive as one would expect it to be. Its idea of updating the plot of the original was just setting it in the nineties, providing the dalmatians with a meet-cute backstory, and tacking on a big finale in which the dogs give Cruella De Vil her comeupance themselves.

Easily the best thing about this film is Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil. Whereas the sequel would go on to muddle her performance a bit in attempting to double-down on it, this film delivers a pure adrenaline shot of Close chewing the scenery as the dastardly Disney villain. Other than her, the film is painfully paint-by-numbers, and feels as if it was engineered by a committee to play on ABC Family for the rest of time.
