Movies: Guardians Of The Galaxy

Upcoming: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians Of The Galaxy is in a similar situation to Ant-Man in that we've only got one film to rely on, and in many ways could be seen as weaker due to being an unknown quantity and more removed nature to the rest of the MCU fold. However, their debut, an unexpected smash hit that managed to outgross Captain America, X-Men and Spider-Man, was so successful that its status as a major presence in the wider series is all but assured.

Like The Avengers crossed with Star Wars not taking itself remotely seriously, the whole idea of Guardians (at least from a movie standpoint) seems built to play into a mixture of our modern cinematic sensibilities and overbearing nostalgia, and it worked; it's fresh and relatable, managing to make the most obscure heroes yet household names. All the grounding is there for a bright future.

And, in fact, the future is more blinding for Guardians than any other franchise, with the distinct possibility this could become bigger than all the other non-ensemble affairs; after sequel Vol. 2, the gang are going to be teaming up with The Avengers for Infinity War as equals.
