RottenTomatoes Score: 71% (6.4/10)

Box Office: Made for an impressively tiny $344,000, the Don Cheadle-led Miles David biopic couldn't help but make its budget back several times over. Not a monstrous success, but not bad.

Verdict: Written, directed, produced by and starring Cheadle, it's safe to say that this low-fi biopic is the result of one man's utter determination to get this story told, and the fine end product is a testament to how successful that approach can be.

While the movie's obtuse structure won't be to all tastes, Cheadle gives arguably the best performance of his career in a film wholly endorsed by the Davis estate, yet thankfully not reeking of flat hagiography. It certainly could've probed harder in some areas, but overall, a rock solid effort.
