RottenTomatoes Score: 76% (6.7/10)

Box Office: Though budgetary data has not been disclosed, the film hasn't even cracked $1 million at the box office, so it's a huge bust.

Verdict: Without question one of the month's strangest releases, Elvis and Nixon revolves around the December 21, 1970 meeting between the two iconic figures, where Elvis rocked up at the White House and begged Nixon to swear him in as an undercover narcotics officer.

What could've been a cheap, silly comedy manages to be both perversely amusing and also convincing on a dramatic level, largely thanks to the superb performances from Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey respectively.

It's hard to think of it as vital cinema, but director Liza Johnson (Hateship Loveship) wrings a surprising amount of drama out of something so potentially daft.
