RottenTomatoes Score: 3% (3.3/10)

Box Office: Neither budgetary nor box office data has been released, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out this one was dead on arrival.

Verdict: Even ignoring the controversy surrounding Zoe Saldana's casting and use of "blackface" make up to make her more closely resemble Nina Simone, this lousy biopic examines a tedious period of the legendary singer's life, doubling down on excessive misery while failing to capture the essence of what made her so great.

Likely to be remembered as one of the most embarrassing and ill-advised biopics of the last few years, Nina is a decent enough idea ruined by terrible creative decisions at almost every turn. Poor David Oyelowo, who tries hard in a supporting role and just about emerges unscathed.
