Box Office: Few movies can confidently hit cinemas with a $320 million budget, but this is Marvel Studios we're talking about. By far the year's most anticipated film, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's climactic event opened to a mind-blowing $640.5 million worldwide, making it by far the most successful opening in cinema history (grossing almost $100 million more than the previous record holder, The Fate of the Furious).

At this point there's no way the film doesn't crack $1.5 billion, and it could even end up much closer to the $2 billion mark. Sweet Jesus.

Verdict: While it might feel a little too fast-paced for its own good, the biggest superhero movie in history largely lives up to the immense hype, delivering a highly compelling, frequently hilarious team-up movie that makes fantastic use of the long-awaited villain, Thanos (Josh Brolin).

The set-pieces crackle, the quips are outrageous but never too much, and it's even surprisingly emotional. Sure, it's just the first half of a fundamentally two-part story, but above all else, it'll keep everyone excitedly chattering for the next year.
