Ranking August 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
10. Blood Father
RottenTomatoes Score: 88% (6.9/10)
Box Office: Mel Gibson is sadly box office strychnine these days, so this one won't be a major hit, but it could do well enough on VOD to offset its evidently low budget.
Verdict: After a years out in the wilderness, Gibson is back with one of his strongest performances in years as a man desperate to save his daughter from murderous drug dealers.
At just 88 minutes in length, this is incredibly lean B-movie entertainment with a surprisingly sharp script, gorgeous cinematography and brief bursts of ultra-violent action.
It's not the balls-to-the-wall action flick many may be expecting, but this isn't at all to its detriment: Gibson commands the screen at all times whether talking or killing, and William H. Macy is a great supporting player also.
