Suicide Squad Nine Lives Kubo And The Two Strings
Paramount Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 87% (7/10)

Box Office: On a $19 million budget, Meryl Streep's latest has reaped in around $30 million to date, unsurprisingly mediocre due to the niche subject matter and fairly underwhelming marketing campaign.

Verdict: Meryl Streep is a revelation as the titular character, an over-indulged opera singer who uses her immense personal wealth to fund a career as an opera singer despite having no natural talent.

The film manages a careful balance of generating laughs out of its central scenario but not overly mocking Streep's character: there is a genuine layer of sadness underneath that is teased out and fully realised.

Hugh Grant also gives one of the best performances of his career as her husband, and it all adds up to a fully-formed portrait of a fascinating figure whose main virtue is her heart and determination.
