7. Don't Breathe

Suicide Squad Nine Lives Kubo And The Two Strings
Screen Gems

RottenTomatoes Score: 87% (7.2/10)

Box Office: Budgeted at a mere $10 million, Don't Breathe was propelled by strong reviews and word-of-mouth and had no problem clearing its budget (and then some) in its opening weekend. Expect it to become one of the late-summer's big sleeper hits.

Verdict: A terrifically imaginative horror-thriller in which a group of youngsters break into a wealthy old man's house and face unexpected resistance, Don't Breathe makes masterful use of both its sound design and actors Jane Levy and Stephen Lang in particular.

Director Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead) crafts by far one of the sharpest and best-looking horrors of the year, building almost unbearable levels of suspense before paying off with occasional bursts of...well, that's best not spoiled.

Indeed, don't watch the trailers and see it knowing as little as possible, because this has cult classic written all over it.
