Ranking August 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

1. Hell Or High Water

Suicide Squad Nine Lives Kubo And The Two Strings
Lionsgate

RottenTomatoes Score: 99% (8.6/10)

Box Office: With a clearly low budget, the highly-acclaimed western has made roughly $5 million to date, which combined with awards buzz should see it do just fine as it rolls out internationally and lands on home video down the line.

Verdict: Here's a movie that just came out of nowhere and has been blowing away critics and audiences alike left and right.

Writer-director David Mackenzie's (Starred Up) western thriller has earned countless comparisons to the Coens' No Country for Old Men, and they're largely apt: violence is minimal, there's unexpected humour, the cinematography is gorgeous, and the performances from Chris Pine, Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges in particular are just marvelous.

In a just world the film will end up as a Best Picture Oscar front-runner, though the fact it's still a genre film at its core may hurt it. We'll see.
