Ranking August 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

2. Kubo & The Two Strings

Suicide Squad Nine Lives Kubo And The Two Strings
Laika

RottenTomatoes Score: 96% (8.3/10)

Box Office: Despite rapturous reviews, the $60 million animation opened on the lower end of expectations and will likely struggle to make back its price tag worldwide.

Don't discount it amassing a cult following on home video, but this is undeniably a big disappointment for the most unique animated outfit working today. What a shame.

Verdict: Another winner for Laika and by far their best effort to date, Kubo has it all: the animation is gorgeous, the vocal performances are top-notch, and there's a riveting emotional core here too.

As great as Finding Dory was, this is currently the movie to beat for Best Animated Film at next year's Oscars, and the supporting performances from Matthew McConaughey and Charlize Theron as Beetle and Monkey respectively are just delightful.
