Ranking August 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

14. War Dogs

Suicide Squad Nine Lives Kubo And The Two Strings
Warner Bros.

RottenTomatoes Score: 59% (6/10)

Box Office: At a cost of $40 million, Todd Phillips' latest landed among expectations in its opening weekend though will probably only barely make its budget back in cinemas. Again, though, it'll probably get boosted into the black on home video.

Verdict: Phillips characteristically serves up plenty of well-cast, irreverent insanity in his latest action-comedy, and though the results do some across rather heavy-handed, it is an entertaining outing for the most part in spite of this.

The chief reason War Dogs works is the chemistry between Miles Teller and Jonah Hill: Hill in particular is a barmy delight, and the pair sell the movie's political "agenda" perfectly well. It's no The Big Short, but it's still thought-provoking and insightful all the same.
