8. Annabelle: Creation

Box Office: The Annabelle prequel was made for a mere $15 million and has grossed more than $170 million to date. Whether or not it eventually tops the original's $256.9 million worldwide total, it's a stonking success in every sense of the word.

Verdict: Though it's overly reliant on jump scares and the tone wavers into unintentional comedy on numerous occasions, Annabelle: Creation is nevertheless a massive improvement over the original film, driven by a strong ensemble cast and sharp direction from David F. Sandberg.

It's no genre classic by any means, but still more convincing proof that the Conjuring Universe is actually having some critical thought and effort put into it.
