Ranking August 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

1. A Ghost Story

RottenTomatoes Score: 91% (7.9/10)

Box Office: Shot for a mere $100,000, the latest art-house drama from writer-director David Lowery has made an impressive $1.7 million at the specialty box office. A minor success if there ever was one, then.

Verdict: Easily Lowery's best film to date, A Ghost Story is an astonishingly unique examination of life and death, a film in which Casey Affleck wears a freaking bed sheet for 80% of his screen time, and which includes a scene of Rooney Mara eating a pie for over five minutes.

If slow-burn movies aren't your deal, don't bother with this one, but if you're prepared to bathe in the moody atmosphere, there's plenty to be rewarded and moved by here.

Unexpected in a number of ways, A Ghost Story proves the power of imagination over money, and is without question one of the year's best films to date.
