Ranking August 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

18. The Emoji Movie

The Emoji Movie
Sony Pictures Animation

RottenTomatoes Score: 8% (2.5/10 average score)

Box Office: Against a fairly modest $50 million budget, the widely-reviled animation has grossed over $125 million worldwide. Not the mammoth smash hit Sony was banking on, but certainly not a failure either.

Verdict: Far from the unexpectedly subversive, Lego Movie-esque animation some were hoping for, The Emoji Movie is as cynically, depressingly braindead as your instincts probably told you it would be.

With little reason to exist beyond functioning as a babysitting tool for over-worked parents, this product placement-infested animated film is basically an insult to the film medium. Not even Patrick Stewart as the poop emoji can make it temporarily watchable.
