Box Office: The $34 million Young Adult fantasy flick fell far short of initial projections and has only barely grossed enough to cover its price tag. Perhaps studios will now finally accept that this genre is dead and buried.

Verdict: If you watched this movie without any exterior context, you'd probably assume it had been sitting on a studio shelf for several years, because it has all the makings of the hottest YA movie of 2012.

In 2018, though, The Darkest Minds is a positively stale relic, for despite Amandla Stenberg's charismatic performance, it's flatly written, blandly shot and rife with eye-rolling product placement for Nissan.
