Box Office: With a bloated budget of $40 million, the R-rated puppet comedy opened to just $9.5 million in North America, making it the lowest solo opening of Melissa McCarthy's career. There's no way this thing even matches its budget before the end of its theatrical run.

Verdict: What a wasted opportunity. Despite a fantastic concept and cracking cast, The Happytime Murders is a fitfully amusing comedy at best, aiming for the lowest-effort joke every time while putting little thought into fashioning an interesting plot or characters.

It gets points for originality, absolutely, but clearly the filmmakers felt that foul-mouthed puppets doing naughty things was enough to carry the movie. It wasn't.
