Falcone’s men are on the docks doing their drug distribution operations. Suddenly, one of the men disappears into the shadows of one of the shipping containers. The other men carefully approach the shadows, but they receive no response from the man that disappeared. The lights go out, and one of the men picks up what looks like a throwable blade shaped like a bat. The men look up to the dark sky and see a giant bat upside down on the end of the crane. It leaps down toward them. The men are so scared they fire their guns only to hit air. One by one they are stalked by a blur. All the men gather in one spot so that they can face their phantom attacker. The figure appears at the center of where they are and takes them all down. Falcone, who sees the frightening scene, runs to his car, only to realize that his driver is unconscious. Falcone is alone, breathing heavily in anticipation of the attacker. Falcone loads his gun, and asks himself “What the hell are you?” Suddenly, the moon roof breaks as the figure’s hand drags Falcone out on the roof. We see for the first time what the figure looks like. The figure replies “I’m Batman” then headbutts Falcone to unconsciousness.

This entrance is a pay-off of an entire first half worth of character development. We saw Bruce Wayne Battle his demons, sharpen his skills, and build the iconic elements of the Batman mythology. So when we go to the part where he appears in front of the criminals for the first time, it’s not just Batman being Batman, it’s Bruce Wayne using everything he learned, and every optimistic notion to help the city he can muster laid bear and explode in front of the criminals - “I’m Batman” never felt so satisfying to hear.

Batman Begins has always been criticized for action scenes that are hard to see, but at the moment Batman is stalking the men in the shadows, the chaotic camera seems so appropriate - Like it is how the criminal element see their specter of death as they try their damnest to hit it.

This entrance is one reason Batman Begins is the quintessential Batman origin story.
