RottenTomatoes Score: 31% (4.3) Box Office: Released in only 40 cinemas alongside a VOD rollout, Don Verdean has just barely made $30,000 from theaters, and even though it evidently didn't cost much to make, it's not going to be making anyone rich. Verdict: Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) continues his run of disappointing indies with yet another quirky-for-its-own-sake comedy that completely wastes an incredible cast including Sam Rockwell, Amy Ryan, Jemaine Clement (who steals the show numerous times...briefly), Danny McBride, Will Forte and Leslie Bibb. Any social commentary it attempts to make on organised religion feels rather moldy and old-hat, while the gag rate is wildly hit-and-miss, ranging from hysterical to striking out numerous times in a row. With not a single of his post-Napoleon movies garnering any solid critical acclaim, it's hard not to think of Hess as a one-hit wonder.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
