Box Office: Even Star Wars couldn't keep audiences away from The Rock, with the lighter, more family-friendly Jumanji reboot nearly doubling its estimated $100 million budget already.

Basically, a sequel's on the way, and considering the huge risk Warner Bros. took dropping the movie at this time of year, it's clearly a gamble that paid off handsomely.

Verdict: What a pleasant surprise this was. Jumanji may be goofy, harmless blockbuster fluff, but it's also a surprisingly fun, smart follow-up to the classic 1995 original, benefiting hugely from its well-matched cast of video game avatars.

The new Jumanji does what so many movies don't: it understands how video games work and shows a true affection for the medium, understanding its essence and making light of it in unexpectedly fun fashion.

Jack Black steals the show as a teenage girl trapped in a fat guy's body, but everyone's a blast here, while the action sequences are nutty fun, and it's generally just a more shrewdly-conceived film than just about anyone expected. Bravo.
