Ranking: Every Batman Movie Final Battle From Worst To Best
1. The Dark Knight (2008)
It's none-too-surprising that the best Batman movie of them all also happens to feature the most electrifying climax, as Batman attacks The Joker's (Heath Ledger) compound while he holds the keys to two ferries packed with explosives (one containing civilians, the other prisoners).
There's just a lot here that really works: Batman's sonar imaging (complete with soothing guidance from Morgan Freeman's Lucius Fox), Batman smacking around the SWAT team guys, his battle with The Joker's dogs, and of course, hurling The Joker off the side of the building before catching him at the last moment.
Some have argued that Nolan overplayed his hand by giving audiences a one-two punch with Batman taking on both The Joker and Two-Face, but his taking Jim Gordon's (Commissioner Gordon) family hostage is fraught with high-drama, and leads to a terrifically impactful ending as Batman kills Two-Face to save Gordon's son, and disappears into the night, taking the blame for his murderous acts.
With exciting locations, gripping drama and awesome technology, there's no Batman finale that can touch it, and while the combat itself again lets Nolan down (it's a rare area where Zack Snyder is superior), it's got an intoxicatingly grand scope that makes it totally unforgettable.
