Ranking Every Christopher Nolan Film From Worst To Best

2. Dunkirk

We've all seen war movies before, but Dunkirk proved that Christopher Nolan war movies are a very different proposition.

Lighter in exposition and dialogue than many of its genre bedfellows, Dunkirk is more intent on transporting viewers to the frontline and highlighting the horrors of armed conflict through stellar sound editing and camera work.

Nolan declares war on cliche by banishing trite scenes depicting strategy meetings and soldiers reminding their brethren what's at stake, swapping them out for a triple-pronged narrative with a strong human angle.

Everything Nolan has learned about editing and structure came to a head in Dunkirk, which highlights the role of people from every walk of life during the fateful World War II rescue operation.
