Ranking Every DC Comic Book Movie From Worst To Best

22. The Return Of The Swamp Thing

Unfortunately for the swamp dwelling anti-hero Alec Holland, people tend to forget about his two movie foray into film-making. Judging by the quality of this low-budget, Heather Locklear-starring sequel, it's not entirely hard to see why.

Released in 1989, Return Of The Swamp Thing stripped away the pulpy darkness that made the comic such a cult gem and went for a daft comedy vibe that earned Locklear her Razzie for Worst Actress that year. The script deserved similar accolades: it is full of awful, painful jokes that are intended to inspire mirth but which are almost universally more suitably met with exasperated eye-rolls.

The sequel goes for cheap nostalgia and a sort of knowing B-movie shlockiness to cover over the issues with quality, but it's never convincing, and it comes off like a wayward episode from the worst period in Doctor Who's long history.
