Ranking Every DC Comic Book Movie From Worst To Best

21. Batman & Robin

DC Movies
Warner Bros. Pictures

In retrospect, you can almost forgive Joel Schumacher of his Batman-related evils because of the self-awareness he eventually showed about his work on the franchise. He tried valiantly to make Year One and indeed to return the darkness of Tim Burton's superior movies with Batman Unchained, but by then too much damage was done. By then, he'd made the worst Batman movie ever released.

After dialling up the family friendly material in Batman Forever (not as bad a film as some would have you believe), Schumacher went full Punch & Judy show for its follow-up. He turned Batman, Robin and Bat-Girl's costumes into cod- and boob-piece bondage spectacles (yes with nipples, but that's not the worst crime on those suits), turned Bane into a joke and allowed Arnold Schwarzenegger off the leash to pun himself frothy.

The result is a camp exercise in day-glo pantomime, with absolutely zero sense of threat or scale, a load of characters who are a disgrace to their auspicious source material and a script you'd reject from an asylum patient or Max Landis.
