Ranking Every DC Comic Book Movie - From Worst to Best

16. Batman & Robin (1997)

The movie that effectively killed the Batman franchise for the better part of a decade, Batman & Robin took the series so far from the dark Gothic aesthetic that Tim Burton had established that it was more reminiscent of Adam West's high-camp television series than a serious portrayal of the Caped Crusader. Taking the neon-and-nipples extravaganza to painfully new heights, Batman & Robin's flimsy narrative delivers a barrage of noise and poorly-staged set-pieces with plenty of gratuitous butt shots thrown in for good measure. George Clooney acts primarily with his chin, while Chris O'Donnell and Alicia Silverstone are equally bland and nondescript as his sidekicks. Then of course, there are the dozens of cringeworthy puns, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Uma Thurman the worst offenders. Although nothing is quite as bad as the Bat credit-card exchange, quite possibly the worst moment in the entire franchise.

15. Swamp Thing (1982)

Wes Craven stepped out of the horror genre to write and direct his first studio picture, presumably in an effort to convince the higher-ups that he was capable of working with a bigger budget and handling action sequences. An intentionally tongue-in-cheek parody of the mad-scientist movies of the 1950s, Swamp Thing is an often-forgotten entry on the director's filmography. Part of the reason for this could be the fact that the movie isn't as knowing or funny as it thinks it is, and ultimately succumbs to the trappings of the 'man in a rubber monster suit' instead of poking fun at them. The movie can't settle on a tone, veering from slapstick comedy to outright ridiculousness via fits of action and horror. Still, it has some novelty value as a camp classic and Adrienne Barbeau makes for a fitting damsel in distress.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
