38. Bane - Jeep Swenson (Batman & Robin)
He may be no more than a glorified henchman in Batman & Robin, but that doesn't mean the day-glo, weird eco-warrior Bane doesn't deserve to be assessed as the key villain figure he's supposed to be.
In the comics, the hulking figure is a criminal master-mind, in every respect Batman's equal (and in some his superior) whose physical "breaking" of the Bat is the culmination of a genius plan, rather than a simple show of brute strength. You can't imagine this green-tinged monstrosity working out how to open a door let alone discovering Batman's secret identity and unleashing the entire population of Arkham Asylum to tire him out before turning up to fight him himself.
Of all of Joel Schumacher's sins, this mangling of a previously iconic villain (completely with completely needless new backstory) is about as bad as it gets.
