Ranking Every DC Original Animated Movie Worst To Best
6. Batman: Assault On Arkham (2014)
Don't be fooled by the title, this is a full-on Suicide Squad movie with Batman only in a smaller supporting variety.
Most likely a 'test the waters' experiment for Warner Brothers/DC to see the demand for a live-action feature following the same subject, as we all know that feature dropped to mixed results, with a helping of studio turmoil. One would have hoped that if Warners was struggling to crack the formula they could've followed the template set here, cause this one knocks the concept out the park.
Set in the continuity of the Arkham video game universe (with lots of fun references for avid fans of the series), the premise is simple but effective; a ragtag group of lethal villains are given a chance at a reduced sentence, if successful in pulling off a suicidal mission for the military. What commences is a suitably crass, violent, off-beat caper played for laughs but with plenty of high-stakes too.
Deadshot, is the closest thing we have to a sympathetic lead even though he's no good guy. The rest of the support features the looney Harley Quinn, cannibalistic King Shark and sultry Lady Frost, making for a vicious rooster of straight-up murderers who are never sugarcoated for our sympathy, but make for a crazy bunch to take this ride with.
A sprinkle of Joker here (voiced by Troy Baker channelling Mark Hamill) and Batman (by good old Kevin Conroy) and you have a cracking off-beat adventure that stands heads above its feature counterpart.
