24. Justice League: Throne Of Atlantis (2015)

Justice League Doom
Warner Bros.

A direct sequel to Justice League: War with a backdoor intro to the New 52 version of Aquaman within the animated continuity, 'Throne' is a decent watch. Ultimately though, it ends up feeling a bit formulaic and familiar even featuring a finale with the Atlantans destroying a major cityscape. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox did that first, and did it better.

Not helping matters is the focus on the Fish Whisperer himself: Aquaman. Although he never turns into the infamous joke that his reputation screams (and the film has a couple of fun pokes at the hearsay), he doesn't make for a dynamic lead either, ending up being the least interesting character in his own movie.

On the other hand, his evil brother Orm - voiced sinisterly by Sam Witwer - steals most of the show, as the devious and power hungry misanthrope that rises to the top of the Atlantean royal tree, by any means necessary.

Then the Justice League itself snatches the rest of the excitement from its lead hero, with fun banter and some effective team fights making up the film's high points. Overall it's a decent watch but doesn't do much to set itself apart from stronger entries that trod familiar ground.
