23. Justice League: Doom (2012)

Justice League Doom
Warner Bros.

Based on Tower of Babel by Mark Waid, a a concise and effective tale that shook up the team dynamic in devastating ways that wouldn't be mended for years to come, and a comic that likely sits as one of the most iconic JLA threads around - at least, in terms of defining how Batman fits in.

It's a simple set-up; the Dark Knight had secretly concocted a fail-safe against his super-friends, basic guidelines that detail surefire ways to take each member down. Ultra-villain Vandal Savage steals them and uses them as a blueprint to kill the Justice League.

With this adaptation they did a decent job of replicating the plot structure but it all ends up feeling like a slight excuse to have a series of action scenes. It's entertaining enough but not much more than a light episodic watch. Which is a shame since in its source, the action was minor compared to the compelling repercussions the plot echoed across the team. Still, they do there best with expanding and having fun with the material, even if they play it safe.
