Ranking Every Disney Animated Movie From Worst To Best!
6. Encanto (2021)
Recency bias? Yeah, probably. But Encanto is spectacular.
The messages in this magical, fantastical tale (while not particularly subtle) are so important to so many people who have suffered through generational trauma. One of the most effective parts of the story is that there isn't a traditional "villain" in this movie; no, it's just a family, rife with colorful and fleshed-out personalities, struggling through dysfunction and learning to love one another truly unconditionally.
And, of course, the music by Lin-Manuel Miranda is just top-notch. "Surface Pressure" and "We Don't Talk About Bruno" are verifiable bops, but the main highlight for me was "Dos Oruguitas," which perfectly underscores a devastating flashback scene near the end of the movie.
Go watch this movie if you haven't yet. Seriously. Right now. Go.
